the exurbanites

the adventures of born and bred New Yorkers living in the lower Hudson Valley. Welcome to exurbia.

The X-Urban Files

There is only one gas station in Garrison. All of a sudden it’s gone with no explanation. I smell a conspiracy of some sort.

Wtf?

Meet Harmony Korine.

Most notably known as the director of Trash Humpers, in case you don’t know his work. He also wrote Kids. Harmony’s other film, Julien Donkey-Boy, features Warner Herzog in a starring role.
But Korine’s latest film is also surprising for the cast. Spring Break features a bunch of Disney chicks and James Franco looking like Kevin Federline. Yeah it looks really good.

Page turner

Scientology. What a great fucking story. It never gets old…it just gets better. Too bad that there isn’t a Scientology Church in the exurbs. There is one in White Plains though. I bring this up because of the great new piece of long-form journalism from Pulitzer Prize winner Lawrence Wright.

The book is brilliantly devastating. Here’s Michael Kinsley’s review in the Sunday NY Times Book Review.

Scientologists are weirder than I thought. Please don’t sue me.
